1996 The Adventures of Huck Finn
Decent Disney attempt at adapting an American favorite by Mark Twain.
Mischievous Huck and runaway slave Jim travel down the muddy
Mississippi, working on life and friendship and getting into all sorts of
adventures in the pre-Civil War era. Fast-paced and amusing with good
performances by Wood (in the title role) and Broadway trained Vance (as
Jim). Racial epithets and minstrel show dialect have been eliminated in
this version. Some material, including Jim's close call with a lynch mob
and Huck's drunken, brutal father may be too strong for immature
children.

Joe Klein's anonymously published political satire is adapted for the big
screen, starting off humorously and shifting into somber. Southern good
ole boy, Gov. Jack Stanton (Travolta), and his savvy wife (Thompson) are
after the presidential nomination and surrounded by crazy associates,
including skeptical first-time campaign manager Henry Burton (Lester).
More about Henry's political baptism by fire than anything else, as he
tries to accommodate his conscience to the continuous scandals and
double-dealing. It really doesn’t matter whether Travolta channeling
Clinton or if Thompson acts like Hilary, since the film has bigger
problems. The change in tone is jarring, characters and situations
disappear without warning. And given that the press act like salivating
wolverine sat the merest hint of scandal, the situation surrounding
opponent Fred Picker (Hagman) seems far-fetched at best. Still the goings-
on will hold your attention until they're over--and you realize it's all

2003 Runaway Jury
When a young widow in New Orleans brings a civil suit against the
powerful corporate consortium she holds responsible for her husband’s
murder, she sets in motion a multi-million dollar case. But it’s a suit that
may be won even before it begins--based solely on the selection,
manipulation and, ultimately, the attempted “theft” of the jury.
Representing the widow is Wendall Rohr, a courtly Southern lawyer with a
moral center and a heartfelt passion for the case he’s presenting. His
opponent is ostensibly the attorney representing the corporation. Butin
reality, defense counsel is only the front man for Rankin Fitch, a brilliant
and ruthless jury consultant. At a high tech command center set up in an
old French Quarter warehouse, Fitch and his team work on the
surveillance and assessment of potential jurors. He will know everything
about their lives, and strategically manipulate the jury selection process.
The only acceptable result is the perfect jury to vote in favor of his client.
Fitch and Rohr soon realize they’re not the only ones out to win the jury.
One of the jurors, Nick Easter, seems to have his own plan for swaying
the panel. And a mysterious woman known only as Marlee contacts both
Rohr and Fitch telling them the jury’s for sale to either of them--and that
the verdict won’t come cheap. While the case is argued in court, a
dangerous cat and mouse game begins to play out in New Orleans’
French Quarter. Rohr’s morality put to the test, and Fitch is poised to
cross the line from selecting a jury to stealing it--no matter who gets hurt
in the process.

grandfather and father, both four-star admirals in the U. S. Navy. Their
careers and courage helped prepare McCain for the biggest challenge of

1967, seriously injured and taken into captivity as a prisoner of war. Upon
realizing McCain's impressive legacy, his captors offered him early
release. In what has now become a legendary act of heroism, McCain

Strong-minded Caroline Ellis is a driven young woman with no time for
local tales of witchcraft and black magic. The young hospice worker is
determined to make enough money to attend nursing school, even if it
means taking a job as a live-in caretaker for the elderly owner of an
isolated plantation house an hour's drive outside of New Orleans, deep in
the atmospheric Louisiana delta renowned for the locals' mystical
practices and powerful ceremonies. The decrepit Terrebonne Parish
mansion is home to born-and-bred Southerners Violet and Ben Devereaux
and both the house and its occupants seem weighted with somber
histories. But for Caroline, the setting is unimportant--she's there to do
her job, caring for Ben after a stroke has left him nearly paralyzed and
mute. To make maneuvering throughout the large home an easier task,
Violet entrusts the new live-in with a skeleton key that unlocks every
door - including one that Caroline discovers obscured by a bookcase at
the back of the house's attic. Seemingly forgotten, the room holds an
intriguing mix of antiques, mirrors oddly banished from the rooms below
and artifacts apparently connected to the practice of a strange kind of
magic - a folk magic that conflicts directly with Caroline's common sense
and pragmatic way of thinking. And yet, small instances of the
unexplainable begin to occur. The mansion - and the strange couple who
inhabit it - are rife with secrets. The more Caroline explores, the deeper
she is drawn into a darkening mystery in the attic room at the very heart
of the house - towards a terrifying and sinister legacy that threatens to
take vengeance on anyone who comes to believe in its power. As Caroline
begins to question her own convictions, she comes ever closer to opening
the door and crossing the threshold to where simple belief becomes
deadly reality.

Undercover FBI Agent Malcolm Turner is out to expose the suspected
designer of a deadly computer "worm" that would allow outside forces
access to sophistical and critical government intelligence files.
Unfortunately, the only way the crafty agent can get next to the worm's
creator, Tom Fuller, is to access the programmer's Orange County home
as the new "nanny" to Fuller and his wife Leah's children: toddler Andrew
and his two older sisters, Carrie and Molly. This means that Malcolm
must once again rely on his sure-fire alter ego, the take-no-prisoners
Hattie Mae Pierce, aka "Big Momma," to bring down the bad guys and
prove that a woman's work is never done! But once undercover, the job
proves another tough juggling act for Big Momma as "she" must manage
the hectic lives of the three Fuller kids, keep up with their myriad of daily
activities, and handle the many household chores, all while secretly trying
to dig up information on Tom's computer virus. Of course, Malcolm's
hardest and most comical task is staying in Big Momma character
throughout, which requires the trickiest of physical and vocal
transformations, not to mention the ability to think really fast on his
pumps. Hilarious situations ensue for "Big Momma" while trying to trap
her prey, including, infiltrating a ritzy women's day spa, leading a bawdy
teen cheerleading competition, and surviving a crazy jet ski chase, all
while trying to keep "her" wig straight and skirts smooth. Along the
way, "Big Momma" also helps bring the fractured Fuller clan back
together and, in turn, Malcolm develops a newfound appreciation for his
own family, which includes stepson Trent and expectant wife Sherrie.
Malcolm also learns he can strike a successful balance between his work
and home responsibilities, without shortchanging either side in the
process. So what if it took wearing fake breasts and a floral tent dress to
get there?

What are the odds of getting even? Danny Ocean and the gang would
have only one reason to pull off their most ambitious and riskiest casino
heist--to defend one of their own. But they’re going to need more than
luck on their side to break The Bank. Ruthless casino owner Willy Bank
never imagined that the odds were against him when he double-crossed
Danny Ocean’s friend and mentor Reuben Tishkoff, putting the distraught
Reuben in a hospital bed in critical condition. But Bank miscalculated--
badly. He may have taken down one of the original Ocean’s eleven, but
he left the others standing and, worse for him, gave them a shared
purpose: to take Bank down on the night of what should be his greatest
triumph--the grand opening of his new casino, appropriately named The
Bank. Their strategy is twofold. First they will ruin him financially by
turning the tables on the precept that the house always wins. But that’s
just money. The knockout punch will be to Bank’s personal pride and joy:
his reputation as the only hotelier who has earned the Royal Review
Board’s Five Diamond Award on every single one of his hotels. The plan is
elaborate, dangerous and damn near impossible--but there are no limits
when it comes to one of their own.

The year is 1973, and Jim Ellis, a college-educated African-American,
can’t find a job. Driven by his love of competitive swimming, Jim converts
an abandoned recreational pool hall in a Philadelphia slum with the help
of Elston, a local janitor. But when city officials mark the new Philadelphia
Department of Recreation for demolition, Jim fights back by starting the city’s
first African-American swim team. Recruiting troubled teens from the streets,
Jim struggles to transform a motley team of novices into capable swimmers, all
in time for the upcoming state championships. But as racism, violence and an unsympathetic city official threaten to tear the team apart, Jim must do everything he can to convince his swimmers that victory, both in and out of the pool, is within
their reach.

Katherine Winter doesn’t believe in miracles--she believes in facts. A
former minister, Katherine turned her back on the cloth after losing her
young daughter and husband while doing missionary work in the Sudan,
and now seeks answers through scientific investigation rather than
prayer. As a university professor, she has become the foremost debunker
of supposed miracles, called to sites all over the world to investigate
weeping statues, wall stains resembling saints and palms that bleed. And
so far, there is no divine mystery she hasn’t solved. But when small-town
schoolteacher Doug Blackwell seeks her help with a series of bizarre
occurrences the townspeople believe to be sent by God, Katherine and
her partner Ben come to learn that sometimes miracles can be
treacherous, and the line between faith and superstition is dangerously
thin. Hidden among the woods and swamplands of Louisiana, Haven is a
town where the rules of reason seem to have been rewritten. A child has
died and the river has turned to blood, which is only the beginning of
what appears to be a revisiting of the Biblical ten plagues upon the town.
For the first time in her professional career, Katherine can’t explain these
phenomena with science. The townspeople believe an enigmatic child
named Loren McConnell has brought God’s wrath to their doorstep, but
what they see as a harbinger of evil, Katherine sees as a lost child
needing her help. The more she is drawn into the dark heart of the
mystery, the more Katherine discovers her own role in a conspiracy that
threatens to shroud the world in darkness.

Tommy Vinson, an ex-gambler, quit the game of Texas Hold'em over 30
years ago after missing a family emergency and swearing "never again"
to his wife, Helen. Tommy tries to be content with his luggage business
but while watching a poker tournament on television, he sees someone
who reminds him of his younger self, Alex Stillman. Alex is a cocky,
hotshot card playing senior at Yale University. Alex's parents would like
him to go to law school, but Alex only dreams of playing professional
poker, like the icons he sees on TV. He's close to greatness, but what he
doesn't realize yet is that he focuses too much on the cards, and not the
players - that's where Tommy comes in. Tommy finds Alex and makes a
pact with him - he'll front Alex the high priced entry fees to all the major
tournaments if Alex plays the way that Tommy wants him to. Alex's
parents are sick about it, and Helen is concerned that her husband will
get sucked back into the game that took him away once before. Tommy
promises Helen that this will not happen because he's not the one
playing, Alex is. But after Tommy and Alex have a falling out everything is
off. Tommy, who's now got the appetite back for the game and a hunger
to be acknowledged as the best, enters the final tournament of the poker
season and ends up facing Alex, his protégé, in the finals of the world
series of poker.
